The risk of bladder cancer in patients with urinary calculi: A meta-analysis

Urolithiasis Dec 01, 2018

Yu Z, et al. - In this meta-analysis, researchers sought the association between a history of urinary calculi (UC) and the risk of bladder cancer (BC). The searched the literature from inception until July 2017 for the studies that reported odds ratios (OR), relative risks or hazard ratios comparing the risk of BC in patients with the history of UC vs those without the history of UC. They identified 13 studies as eligible and suggested a significantly increased risk of BC in patients with prior UC. Findings thus suggest an association of a history of UC with BC and that clinical management and cancer surveillance may be impacted by this history.
