The risk of acute pancreatitis after initiation of dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitors: Testing a hypothesis of subgroup differences in older U.S adults
Diabetes Care Apr 14, 2018
Hong JL, et al. - Authors ascertained if dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitors (DPP-4I) increased the risk of acute pancreatitis in older patients. They also determined if the correlation varied by age, sex, and history of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Eligible initiators were aged 66+ years without a history of pancreatic disease or alcohol-related diseases. No link was disclosed between DPP-4I with an increased risk of acute pancreatitis in older adults overall. It was found that age and sex did not modify the association. Findings illustrated that the positive association in patients with CVD was possibly attributed to chance or bias.
