The Rim Cutter does not show an advantage over modern cementing techniques: A five-year radiological and clinical follow-up of the Rim Cutter used with flanged acetabular components
The Bone & Joint Journal Nov 05, 2017
van Winterswijk PJTS, et al. - This study was designed to determine the incidence of radiolucent lines (RLLs) using two flanged acetabular components at total hip arthroplasty (THA) and the impact of the Rim Cutter. Evidence from early laboratory and clinical studies demonstrated promising results with Rim Cutter. However, this investigation of the radiological and clinical outcome five years post-operatively did not demonstrate any advantage of Rim Cutter over and above modern cementing techniques in combination with a well performing cemented acetabular component and, this is why Rim Cutter has been abandoned in routine primary THA.
