The revised GOLD 2017 COPD categorization in relation to comorbidities
Respiratory Medicine Dec 19, 2017
Kahnert K, et al. - The link between the revised (2017) Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) groups A-D and major comorbidities was studied herein. Data suggested that the clinical relevance of recently modified GOLD categorization extends beyond the fact that it is purely an assessment of symptoms and exacerbations. Notably, findings emphasized the significance of detecting comorbidities in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), specifically in non-responders to therapy with high symptoms and/or exacerbation rates, as a correlation of the A-D groups with the risk of important comorbidities was evident, with some differences in terms of the correlation with symptoms and exacerbations.
