The relationship between vitamin D status and islet function in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
BMC Endocrine Disorders Oct 22, 2021
Zhao H, Zheng C, Zhang M, et al. - Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus exhibited an association between increased 25-hydroxy vitamin D levels and improvement in modified homeostasis model assessment-β function.
This study involved 174 patients aged 26 to 79 years with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
A lower modified homeostasis model assessment-β level was detected in patients with vitamin D deficiency vs those without vitamin D deficiency.
Based on the tertiles, differences existed in BMI, diabetes course, glycosylated hemoglobin, fasting blood glucose, fasting blood C-peptide, triglyceride, and 25-hydroxy vitamin D among different modified homeostasis model assessment-β groups.
There was a positive association of 25-hydroxy vitamin D with modified homeostasis model assessment-β whether or not confounding factors were adjusted.
