The relationship between the tympanostomy tube extrusion time and viscosity
International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Jun 19, 2020
Degirmenci N, Tugrul S, Goktas SS, et al. - In this investigation involving 33 patients, researchers intended to determine if there is an association between the tympanostomy tube (TT) extrusion time and the viscosity of the middle ear fluid. Participants in the study were patients who were scheduled for a TT insertion. Fluid from the middle ear was collected during the paracentesis procedure, and the viscosity was measured using a viscometer. The correlation analysis between the time of the tube extrusion and the viscosity was statistically insignificant. The time for tube extrusion may be longer or shorter and is independent of the viscosity of the effusion. Further studies are required to clarify the factors affecting the time of extrusion for TT.
