The relationship between the functional gait assessment and quality-of-life data in patients undergoing vestibular schwannoma resection
Otology & Neurotology Jul 28, 2021
Said M, Lee J, Moshtaghi O, et al. - Researchers investigated the correlations between the Functional Gait Assessment (FGA) and quality of life (QOL) measurements relating to balance before and after vestibular schwannoma (VS) resection. In addition, they examined the role of preoperative FGA in predicting postoperative QOL. They conducted a prospective clinical study of adult patients undergoing VS resection. Analysis was performed including 138 patients (mean age: 48 years old, 65.9% female). Findings suggest a significant correlation of FGA and QOL data in the preoperative setting. However, there appeared no utility of preoperative FGA for determining postoperative QOL. In addition, the lack of association between FGA and QOL estimates in the acute postoperative setting suggests the necessity for further research to determine contributors to postoperative QOL.
