The relationship between structural and functional brain changes and altered emotion and cognition in chronic low back pain brain changes: A systematic review of MRI and fMRI studies
The Clinical Journal of Pain | Feb 16, 2018
Ng SK, et al. - In this review, researchers investigated magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) brain changes and examined their potential relationship with emotional and cognitive processes in chronic low back pain (CLBP). The CLBP groups showed brain changes mainly in areas and networks important in emotion and cognition, rather than those typically associated with nociception. Findings thereby supported the notion that emotional and cognitive processes could be the core contributor to the CLBP experience.
