Monti S, et al. - The goal of the study described in this paper was to develop and investigate a protocol for utilizing colour duplex sonography (CDS) in the routine care of giant cell arteritis (GCA). It was concluded that the CDS provides high positive predictive value for diagnosing GCA and allows for a significant reduction in temporal artery biopsies. They investigated the role of CDS in detecting flares and exhibited a relationship to the extent of the distribution of halos, but not to their size.
