The prognostic value of quantitative diffusion-weighted MRI after pediatric cardiopulmonary arrest
Resuscitation Feb 28, 2019
Yacoub M, et al. - Researchers performed this single-center retrospective study to determine a diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI MRI) threshold for brain volume percent that is related to neurologic outcome in children who stay comatose or show significant neurologic deficits directly after resuscitation from cardiopulmonary arrest (CPA). This study included 26 patients with a median age of 8.5 years (2.2–14) and median time from CPA to MRI of 4 days (2–7). Outcomes suggest that quantitative DWI MRI correlates with neurologic outcome in these pediatric patients. For predicting poor neurologic outcome, both an apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) threshold of <600 × 10-6 mm2/s in ≥7% of brain volume and <650 × 10-6 mm2/s in ≥11% of brain volume are highly specific.
