The prognostic value of pretreatment Glasgow Prognostic Score in patients with esophageal cancer: A meta-analysis
Cancer Management and Research Sep 10, 2019
Wang Y, Li P, Li J, et al. - In order to determine the ability of Glasgow Prognostic Score (GPS) to predict long-term survival in esophageal cancer, researchers performed this meta-analysis. They selected potential investigations, from electronic databases that reported the prognostic significance of pretreatment GPS in esophageal cancer patients. They evaluated the link of GPS with overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) by integrating the hazard ratios with 95% confidence intervals. This analysis included 21 studies in total, with 6,115 patients. Poorer OS and CSS were observed in patients with elevated GPS vs those with a GPS of 0. They found no significant link between the elevated GPS and DFS. In subgroup analysis, the results seen were found to be comparable to those of the overall analyses. For predicting the prognosis of patients with esophageal cancer, the possible value of pretreatment GPS was suggested.
