The prognostic value of p16 and p53 expression for survival after vulvar cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Gynecologic Oncology Jan 23, 2019
Sand FL, et al. - In view of the suggested prognostic value of tumor suppressor proteins p16 and p53 in some human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated cancers, researchers examined their prognostic value for survival after vulvar squamous cell carcinoma (VSCC). In this review and meta-analysis, they analyzed a total of 18 eligible studies identifying p53 and especially p16 expression status as significant for prognosis of women diagnosed with VSCC. p53 positive VSCC have a significantly reduced 5-year overall survival (OS) vs p53 negative. Better survival was noted for women with p16 positive vulvar cancers vs p16 negative.
