The prognostic value of lymph node burden in oral cavity cancer: Systematic review and meta‐analysis
The Laryngoscope Jun 10, 2021
Tsai TY, Iandelli A, Marchi F, et al. - In this systemic review and meta-analysis, researchers sought to assess the prognostic value of lymph node burden in oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma. Until April 2020, PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library as well as manual searches were conducted. Between 2009 and 2019, eleven included studies were published. There were a total of 20,607 patients (range 35–14,554). The meta-analysis showed that a higher lymph node burden was significantly associated with worse overall survival, worse disease-specific survival, and worse disease-free survival. Lymph node burden is an independent prognosticator for survival outcomes in oral squamous cell carcinoma. More prospective or high-quality studies, however, are needed to determine the optimal cutoff.
