The prognostic significance of intratumoral heterogeneity of 18F-FDG uptake in patients with oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma
European Journal of Radiology Mar 16, 2019
Kimura M, et al. - In patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma, researchers assessed the prognostic ability of two major indices of intratumoral heterogeneity of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose uptake by positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT), explicitly heterogeneity index (HI) and heterogeneity factor (HF). The study sample consisted of 62 patients who had resective surgery. According to this retrospective analysis, HI and total lesion glycolysis for overall survival and disease-free survival, respectively, may be statistically significant prognostic factors. Higher levels of HI and TLG were associated with poorer OS and DFS, respectively, according to univariate and multivariate analyses.
