The prognostic effect of anatomic subsite in HPV-positive oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma
American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery May 19, 2019
Tham T, et al. - Using a large population-based cohort, researchers examined the survival impact of HPV in tonsillar-related area (nTRA) subsites vs tonsillar-related areas (TRA) subsites. Compared to nTRAs, HPV-positive squamous cell cancer was significantly more common in TRAs. Patients with HPV-positive disease in nTRAs had a worse cause-specific survival vs people with HPV-positive disease in TRAs after controlling for age, treatment, stage, race, and income. The authors concluded that patients with HPV-positive OPSCC in nTRAs had worse survival outcomes vs HPV-positive OPSCC patients in TRAs.
