The primitive palmomental reflex in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
European Neurology Mar 29, 2018
Taiello AC, et al. - During this study, authors aspired to scrutinize the frequency of palmomental reflex (PMR), a primitive reflex that was possibly released due to inhibition in adulthood, in the case of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). In contrast with patients having neurological disorders (NC) of healthy controls (HC), a higher frequency of the PMR was reported in ALS patients. It was determined that its expression increased with age, being higher in bulbar-onset patients. Owing to the reflex circuit being located in the brain stem, its release due to inhibition could be related to the presence of a cortico-bulbar tract dysfunction in ALS.
