The prevalence of swallowing dysfunction in children with laryngomalacia: A systematic review
International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Oct 29, 2020
Jaffal H, Isaac A, Johannsen W, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to systematically review the literature for evidence on the prevalence of swallowing dysfunction (SwD) in children diagnosed with laryngomalacia (LM). The following databases were searched: OVID Medline, Ovid EMBASE, EBSCO CINAHL, PROSPERO, and Cochrane Library. Five hundred twelve abstracts resulted from the quest. The literature indicates a high SwD prevalence in children with LM, but there is a low level of evidence and limited generalizability. A wide range of prevalence estimates indicate substantial threshold variability and signals for the evaluation of swallowing in children with LM.
