The prevalence of sleep apnoea in non-dialysis chronic kidney disease patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Nephrology Dec 13, 2018

Huang Z, et al. - Researchers analyzed 26 studies reporting the prevalence of sleep apnoea (SA) in non-dialysis chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients assessed by sleep questionnaires or sleep respiration monitoring. These publications were identified from databases searched up to September 2018. Also, pooled prevalence of SA was estimated by random-effects meta-analysis. Subgroup analysis and meta-regression were additionally carried out. Both early and advanced non-dialysis CKD patients commonly developed SA. A lower prevalence was reported using sleep related scales vs instrumental sleep monitoring. Subjects with advanced CKD had increased prevalence of SA. An impact of SA was more likely to be seen among male patients vs female patients.
