Urology Aug 01, 2019
Pekala KR, Pelzman D, Theisen KM, et al. - A retrospective review was carried out on adults diagnosed with adult acquired buried penis (AABP) and penile cancer by experts in order to discover the prevalence of penile cancer, rare but aggressive cancer, in individuals with AABP. A total of 150 individuals with the diagnosis of AABP were recruited in this study. The prevalence of penile squamous cell carcinoma was 7%. A 35% rate of premalignant lesions was discovered. The limitation of the study was retrospective and single-institution nature. Hence, it was concluded that for penile cancer, AABP is a condition that incorporates various risk factors. In patients with AABP, the prevalence of penile cancer seemed to be higher. Nevertheless, more data is required in order to validate these initial findings. Moreover, patients with AABP should be counseled on these risks and if a physical exam cannot be done, it should be acknowledged for buried penis repair.
