Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology Nov 02, 2020

Dong ZY, Xiang BJ, Jiang M, et al. - Researchers conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis to examine the prevalence of gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms, abnormal liver function, digestive system disease and liver disease in COVID-19 patients by searching PubMed, Ovid Embase, Medline, and 2 Chinese databases. Participants in the study were 4,682 patients. Anorexia and diarrhea were the most significant GI symptoms. Increased alanine aminotransferase was the most significant abnormal liver function. It was more likely that severe patients had GI symptoms and abnormal liver function. In the Wuhan group, there was a higher prevalence of nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, abnormal liver function, digestive system disease, and liver disease. In non-China group, the prevalence of diarrhea was higher.
