The prevalence of eustachian tube dysfunction symptoms in temporomandibular joint disorder patients
The Laryngoscope Jul 05, 2019
Newman AC, et al. - Researchers used the seven-item Eustachian Tube Dysfunction Questionnaire (ETDQ-7) to determine the cross-sectional prevalence of eustachian tube dysfunction (ETD) symptoms in temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJD) patients. At routine consultation or follow-up for their TMJD, a total of 21 patients with confirmed TMJD completed the ETDQ-7. According to this prospective cross-sectional analysis, ETD symptoms are highly prevalent among TMJD patients determined by patient-reported outcome measures. Whether these symptoms reflect true eustachian tube function derangement in these patients or whether there is only clinical resemblance between ETD and TMJD is not evident. However, this dilemma may be resolved by future study attempts.
