The prevalence and predictors of missed dysplasia on index Barrett’s esophagus diagnosing endoscopy in a Veteran population
Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology Apr 12, 2021
Nguyen TH, Thrift AP, George R, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective analysis to assess the proportion of patients diagnosed with "missed" dysplasia within 18 months of their index non-dysplastic Barrett’s esophagus (BE) diagnosis. The sample consisted of 614 patients who had BE on index esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) diagnosed during 1990-2019 at the Houston VA. Missed dysplasia on an index EGD has become less common over time. Those with long-segment BE, on the other hand, were more than three times as likely to have missed dysplasia, and this group could benefit from dysplasia surveillance within 18 months of BE diagnosis.
