The prevalence and characteristics of epilepsy in patients with multiple sclerosis in Nordland county, Norway
Seizure - European Journal of Epilepsy Oct 11, 2017
Benjaminsen E, et al. - In this present study, the physicians identified and described the patients with active epilepsy in a previously described population-based multiple sclerosis (MS)-cohort. Among MS patients in Nordland, the frequency of active epilepsy was 3.2%, about 4.5 times higher than in the general Norwegian population. Compared to patients without active epilepsy, relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS) patients with active epilepsy had more likely converted to secondary progressive MS (SPMS). They supported that focal MS brain pathology was the cause of comorbid epilepsy with a high frequency of focal epilepsy.
