The presence of atrial fibrillation in Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is predictive of mortality: Systematic review and meta-analysis
Annals of Noninvasive Electrocardiology Jun 29, 2018
Prasitlumkum N, et al. - Researchers examined the link between atrial fibrillation (AF) and mortality in patients with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTC). They analyzed data from published prospective or retrospective cohort studies that compared all-cause mortality in TTC with AF vs without AF. These studies were identified from the databases of MEDLINE and EMBASE from inception to January 2018. The meta-analysis included five studies from August 2008 to October 2017 involving 2,321 subjects with TTC (243 with AF and 2,078 without AF). Findings revealed that vs patients without TTC, atrial fibrillation doubled the incidence of all-cause mortality among patients with TTC. A prognostic role of AF for all-cause mortality in TTC was suggested.
