The predictive value of plasma osmolality for in-hospital mortality in patients with acute pulmonary embolism
The Clinical Respiratory Journal Feb 07, 2019
Oz A, et al. - A sum of 245 consecutive intermediate or high-risk acute pulmonary embolism (APE) cases were studied to determine the influence of plasma osmolality upon admission with in-hospital mortality in subjects with APE. Authors categorized the people into 3 tertile groups based on the increased plasma osmolality: T1, T2, and T3. They noted elevated incidence of asystolia, hypotension, and cardiogenic shock in the T3 group. They also noticed significant higher in-hospital mortality in the T3 group after adjusting for all risk factors. It implied elevated levels of plasma osmolality, predictive value for in-hospital mortality in APE patients.
