The predictive value of malnutrition for functional and cognitive status in elderly hemodialysis patients
International Urology and Nephrology Dec 07, 2018
Abdulan IM, et al. - Researchers conducted this study to objectively and precisely describe the prevalence of malnutrition and severe cognitive/functional impairment in elderly dialysis patients from a single center. Further, they sought to establish the prognostic role of malnutrition assessment for patient’s severe cognitive/functional status. For these purposes, they performed a cross-sectional study of 81 elderly ambulatory hemodialysis patients at a single dialysis center from north-eastern Romania. Findings confirmed that malnutrition correlates significantly with cognitive/functional impairment, and suggested malnutrition scores as valuable in predicting depression and physical dependence in elderly dialysis patients.
