The postoperative outcomes of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps by sustained released steroid from hyaluronic acid gel
European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology Mar 19, 2021
Zhang H, Hu L, Li W, et al. - In this randomized clinical trial involving 30 patients who had chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps and had functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS), researchers sought to examine the effectiveness and potential of self-crosslinked hyaluronic acid (scHA) gel as a topical drug sustained release carrier for steroid of budesonide. The single application of scHA was evaluated in the control patient group for postoperative recovery. The combination of scHA/budesonide was applied for postoperative management in the treatment patient group. The findings suggest that combining scHA and budesonide is an effective treatment for FESS postoperative management, and that scHA gel may be used as a topical drug sustained release scaffold.
