The possible association between serum interleukin 8 and acute urinary retention in Chinese patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia
Andrologia Aug 27, 2020
Wu D, Tang HX, Wu Y, et al. - Researchers examined the possible link between serum interleukin 8 (sIL‐8) and acute urinary retention (AUR) in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in this cross‐sectional analysis, to ultimately afford evidence of sIL‐8 as a potential biomarker for the prediction of AUR. This study involved 245 ageing Chinese men with BPH. BPH patients with AUR were found to have significantly raised levels of sIL‐8. There was a positive correlation of sIL‐8 level with AUR in BPH patients. Among participants with a high sIL‐8 level (≥43.05 pg/ml), the correlation with AUR was significantly enhanced. Findings demonstrated an independent correlation of sIL‐8 level with AUR in Chinese BPH patients. As a possible predictor, sIL‐8 was suggested to confer a possible contribution to the screening of high‐risk groups for AUR to allow for the early effective interventions to better prognosis and enhance the quality of life.
