The perfusion index is a useful screening tool for peripheral artery disease
Heart and Vessels Oct 07, 2018
Okada H, et al. - Given rising global increase in the number of individuals with peripheral artery disease (PAD), researchers conducted this cross-sectional study involving 390 patients to investigate the correlation between perfusion index (PI) and ankle-brachial index (ABI) to determine whether the PI could be used a screening tool for PAD. Findings demonstrated that PI did not restrict the patient’s mobility, could be completed in a short time period, and was associated with reduced costs and, thus, could serve as a reliable screening tool for diagnosing PAD.
