The pathology of lumbosacral lipomas: Macroscopic and microscopic disparity have implications for embryogenesis and mode of clinical deterioration
Histopathology Jan 29, 2018
Jones V, et al. - With the intention of elucidating the spectrum of histological changes occurring and correlating with the histology of the anatomical type of lumbosacral lipomas (LSL), researchers inspected the surgical specimens. The purpose was to determine the existence of distinct histological sub-types. Herein, the heterogeneity of tissue types within all samples, not reflected in the nomenclature was underscored. Findings illustrated that the diversity of tissue types, consistent across all subtypes, challenged held notions regarding the embryogenesis of LSLs and the assumption that clinical deterioration was the result of tethering.
