The outcome of patients with localized undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma of the lower extremity treated at Stanford University
American Journal of Clinical Oncology Jan 30, 2019
Kamat NV, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study, 55 primary lower-extremity undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS) cases treated at Stanford between 1998 and 2015 were studied to examine the clinical and prognostic factors which determine failure. Investigators recorded 60% and 68% as the 5-year disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) rates, respectively. They assessed positive surgical margins as a key prognostic factor for predicting relapse in UPS. They observed a significant improvement in local control of disease with radiation therapy, but it had no significant effect on DFS.
