The outcome of complex hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery for elderly patients: A propensity score matching analysis
Digestive Surgery Jun 30, 2018
Takagi K, et al. - A retrospective review of perioperative data of 721 patients who underwent complex hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery between 2010 and 2015 was performed to investigate postoperative outcomes of complex HPB surgery for elderly patients. Despite having more comorbidities and higher incidences of postoperative mortality and several complications before matching, elderly patients displayed postoperative outcomes equivalent to those of non-elderly patients after matching. Operative time and blood loss were noted as independent risk factors for serious postoperative morbidity, whereas older age seemed to have no predictive impact.
