The orthogeriatric comanagement improves clinical outcomes of hip fracture in older adults
Osteoporosis International Feb 10, 2019
Baroni M, et al. - In this single-center, pre-post intervention observational study with 2 parallel arms, orthogeriatric comanagement (OGC) and geriatric consultant service (GCS), and a retrospective control arm, researchers analyzed the data to comparatively assess the clinical outcomes of hip fracture in older adults. They noticed an inverse correlation between the OGC and LOS. Subjects in the OGC revealed a higher possibility of undergoing surgery within 48 h as compared to those in the usual orthopedic care (UOC). The OGC candidates had a significantly lower 1-year mortality rate in comparison to those in the UOC.
