Lubin D, et al. - Using quantitative technologies, the authors aimed to determine the expression of activated Notch 1 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and to determine the relationship between Notch 1 expression and various clinicopathologic parameters. Esophageal SCC patients with increased Notch intracellular domain (NICD) expression were found to be more likely to die from their disease compared to those with lower levels of expression. They proposed that increased Notch 1 could contribute to the development and aggressiveness of esophageal SCC.
