The natural history of radiolucencies following uncemented total knee replacement at 9 years
Journal of Arthroplasty Aug 24, 2019
Costales T, et al. - In view of an increased interest in using uncemented TKA to reduce aseptic loosening, researchers sought to report on the 9-year history of radiolucencies in patients with uncemented TKA. Of 21 patients (26 knees) who were treated with a CR fully porous coated femur/tibia and cemented patella, 17 patients (22 knees) were available for review at final follow-up. All patients showed radiolucencies on both the tibia and femur at six-weeks suggesting their common occurrence following uncemented TKA. For many of these, they observed resolution by one year. No association seemed existing between the presence of radiolucencies and long-term follow up function in this group of patients.
