The more the micropapillary pattern in stage I lung adenocarcinoma, the worse the prognosis: A retrospective study on digitalized slides
Virchows Archiv Apr 07, 2018
Zombori T, et al. - Researchers determined the proportion of different patterns in lung adenocarcinoma and their effect on overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS). In tumours without recurrence, lepidic pattern was more frequently detected. Favourable prognosis was reported for lepidic predominant tumours, however, proportions above 25% were not related to improving outcome. This investigation was based on measured area of each growth pattern on all available slides of lung adenocarcinomas digitalized. This was shown to be the most precise approach to determine the size of each component from the material available. For prognostic purposes, use of predominant and secondly predominant patterns was proposed, especially in tumours having solid or micropapillary patterns.
