The miniature lateral crural strut graft: Efficacy of a novel technique in tip plasty
The Laryngoscope Feb 14, 2020
Abdelwahab M, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective cohort study to report a novel technique for tip plasty and discover its effectiveness utilizing validated patient-reported outcome measures and objective measures. This investigation was conducted in a tertiary center. Between January 2016 and August 2019, they involved patients undergoing tip plasty using the miniature lateral crural strut grafts (mini-LCSG) in cosmetic/combined rhinoplasty with available outcome measures. Among 52 individuals, 33 were involved (26 had cosmetic while seven had combined functional and cosmetic rhinoplasty, with a follow-up of up to 3 years). Both cosmetic and combined individuals demonstrated significant improvement in SCHNOS-Cosmesis (C) scores and zone 1 LWI. CHNOS-Obstruction (O) and NOSE scores exhibited a significant decrease in individuals undergoing combined rhinoplasty only. The mean SCHNOS-6 displayed significant improvement with specific regard to tip cosmesis. Findings suggested that the mini-LCSG is a novel tip plasty modification that enhances tip cosmesis and symmetry, both subjectively and objectively without compromising nasal function.
