The midline approach for endotracheal intubation using GlideScope video laryngoscopy could provide better glottis exposure in adults: A randomized controlled trial
BMC Anesthesiology Nov 14, 2019
Jiang L, Qiu S, Zhang P, et al. - In the present prospective, randomized, controlled study, 262 patients (aged 18 years) who had elective surgery under general anaesthesia and needed endotracheal intubation were involved to assess the impacts of different video laryngoscopic approaches on intubation. Findings revealed that there were no significant differences in the patient characteristics and airway assessments. The rates of hoarseness or sore throat, minor injury, hypoxemia and changes in systolic blood pressure and heart rate exhibited no significant difference between the groups. While based on the laryngoscopic approach, the first-pass success rate did not differ, the midline approach could provide better exposure to the glottis and shorter periods to glottis and intubation. For teaching in video laryngoscopy-assisted endotracheal intubation, the midline approach should be suggested.
