The metabolic side effects of 12 antipsychotic drugs used for the treatment of schizophrenia on glucose: A network meta-analysis
BMC Psychiatry | Nov 29, 2017
Zhang Y, et al. - A network meta-analysis was performed to assess the comparative effects of 12 antipsychotic drugs on changes in the glucose levels with the objective of providing a point of reference for treatment selection. Compared to ziprasidone, lurasidone, risperidone or placebo treatment, olanzapine was correlated with a significantly greater change in blood glucose levels. The application of a hierarchy of glucose metabolism-related side effects could help clinicians tailor the choice of antipsychotic drug to meet the needs of individual patients.
