The maternal leukocyte count at admission for labor is indicative of early maternal postpartum infectious morbidity and adverse neonatal outcome

European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology Dec 26, 2020

Srebnik N, Michaeli J, Shalev L, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective cohort study including afebrile women, term, singleton, vaginal delivery with the aim to determine the correlation between maternal leukocyte count at admission for labor and postpartum infectious maternal morbidity (PPIM) following vaginal delivery. Out of 168,979 deliveries, 58,174 were eligible (34.4%). PPIM was reported in 1,068 (1.8%) women. Observations revealed significant predictive value of an elevated level of the leukocyte count at admission for labor and the Δleukocyte for the risk of PPIM and adverse neonatal outcomes in healthy women.
