The levels of 12 cytokines and growth factors in tears: Hyperthyreosis vs euthyreosis
Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology Jan 18, 2018
Mandic JJ, et al. - An analysis was pursued of the 12 cytokines and growth factors in tears, followed by a comparative assessment of the outcomes between healthy subjects and patients with Graves’ hyperthyreosis (GH) without thyroid-associated orbitopathy (TAO). Substantial elevation was illustrated in the ratios of all of the cytokines to anti-inflammatory interleukins (IL)-10 in the hyperthyreosis group. Findings brought to light clear differences in the levels of cytokines and growth factors among both the study groups. In Graves’ hyperthyreosis patients, tear cytokine changes and related dysfunctional tear syndrome (DTS) possibly served as an early sign of occult TAO.
