The influence of the number of toys in the environment on toddlers’ play

Dauch C, et al. - The assumption investigated herein was that an environment with fewer toys would result in a higher quality of play for toddlers. It was discovered toddlers engaged in longer periods of play with a single toy when provided with fewer toys in the environment. This aided in better exploration and hence the toddlers played more creatively. This could be offered as a recommendation in many natural environments with the intention of supporting the children’s development and for promoting healthy play.
