The influence of the anaesthesia-to-stimulation time interval on seizure quality parameters in electroconvulsive therapy
Journal of Affective Disorders Feb 08, 2018
Jorgensen A, et al. - Researchers aimed to assess the influence of the anaesthesia-to-stimulation time interval on seizure quality parameters in electroconvulsive therapy. They observed higher peak heart rate in association with longer time interval from anesthesia to the electrical stimulation (ASTI). This phenomenon seemed to exhibit better seizure propagation to subcortical areas of the brain. Outcomes thereby suggested that a simple way of improving seizure quality could be to delay stimulation after anesthesia and in turn improve the clinical effect of electroconvulsive therapy.
