The influence of patient gender on morbidity following total hip or total knee arthroplasty

Basques BA, et al. - This study investigated gender-based differences in operative time, length of stay, 30-day complications, and readmissions in patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA). An increased risk of multiple individual adverse events including death, surgical site infection, cardiac arrest, return to the operating room, and readmission, was observed in males, while the risk of urinary tract infection and blood transfusion was more in females.
