The influence of obesity-related factors in the etiology of renal cell carcinoma—A Mendelian randomization study
PLoS Medicine Feb 09, 2019
Johansson M, et al. - In this Mendelian randomization study, the authors assessed 10,784 renal cell carcinoma (RCC) cases and 20,406 controls to estimate the influence of obesity-related factors in the etiology of RCC. They identified genetic markers associated with obesity measures, blood pressure, lipids, type 2 diabetes, insulin, and glucose as instrumental variables and their association with RCC risk was observed in a genome-wide association study (GWAS). They noted a correlation between higher body mass index and increased risk of RCC. They concluded higher fasting insulin and diastolic blood pressure, novel etiological agents which linearly increased the risk for RCC.
