The influence of insurance status on treatment and outcomes in oral cavity cancer: An analysis on 46,373 patients
International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Apr 18, 2018
Shin JY, et al. - Researchers ascertained the influence of insurance status on treatment and outcomes in oral cavity cancer. They analyzed data using χ2 tests, Kaplan-Meier methods, and multivariable Cox regression models. In patients with oral cavity cancer, an association of insurance status with treatment and outcomes was noted. When compared to private insurance, being uninsured or on Medicaid was seen to be related to a higher risk of a poorer prognosis. In order to adequate medical care in vulnerable patient populations, the need to expand comprehensive medical coverage and optimize access was suggested.
