European Journal of Surgical Oncology Oct 07, 2020
Jauhari Y, Dodwell D, Gannon MR, et al. - In a population-based cohort, researchers studied the use of surgery and chemotherapy among older women with early stage triple negative breast cancer (TNBC). From English cancer registration data, they identified 7,094 women aged ≥ 50 years with unilateral early (stage 1-3a) TNBC. Observations revealed undertaking of surgery in majority of older women with early TNBC, although there were some physically fit older women who did not underwent surgery. Use of chemotherapy varied by age and fitness. Lower rates of chemotherapy were observed in correlation with more comorbidities and greater frailty.
