The incidence of psychiatric medication use and its effect on intraoperative bleeding in facial cosmetic patients

Harvey D, et al. - A comparison is performed of intraoperative surgical bleeding between cosmetic surgery patients who are and are not taking psychiatric medications. In this study, the use of psychiatric medications seemed not predictive of increased intraoperative surgical bleeding. Given the prevalence of psychiatric medication use among this patient population, findings seemed beneficial and obviated the necessity for discontinuation of these medications, which otherwise could be consequential.
