The incidence of microscopic thyroglossal duct tissue superior to the hyoid bone
The Laryngoscope Apr 25, 2019
Garcia E, et al. - At the Children's Hospital Los Angeles from March 2014 to July 2017, authors investigated the incidence of microscopic disease superior to the hyoid bone in kids with a primary or revision procedure for thyroglossal duct cyst. They observed microscopic disease superior to the hyoid bone in 74% of specimens and in 100% of the specimens from a revision procedure. Even if no gross disease was recorded at the time of surgery tissue superior to the hyoid bone was suggested to be removed routinely in order to minimize the incidence of persistence after a primary procedure.
