The incidence and risk factors of asymptomatic primary spontaneous pneumothorax detected during health check-ups
BMC Pulmonary Medicine Dec 19, 2017
Mitani A, et al. - This study was designed to assess the incidence, characteristics, risk factors, and prognosis of asymptomatic primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP) detected during regular medical check-ups in university students. The reported prevalence of asymptomatic PSP was as high as 0.042%. Greater height growth was identified as a risk factor for asymptomatic PSP, over and above the known risk factors for conventional PSP. Since a considerable number of patients with mild lung collapse eventually require an invasive medical procedure, therefore, it is extremely crucial to implement a careful follow-up.
